He has numerous research interests and is the principal investigator on studies involving reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint using distraction osteogenesis and mass spectrometry analysis of pathologic temporomandibular joint synovial fluids. Dr. Israel’s research was instrumental in uncovering the Nazi origins of an acclaimed medical book, the Pernkopf Anatomy Atlas, which increased public awareness of the biomedical ethical issues of medical research that was obtained in the era of National Socialism in Europe during World War II.
